The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day!"

Have you ever had one of those days that you would like to curl up under the covers and wish the world would just GO AWAY!!!! Well, today was one of those days for me! In fact, I'm reminded of the well known book, "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day."
  • Alexander knew it was going to be a terrible day when he woke up with gum in this hair. And it got worse...His best friend deserted him. There was no dessert in his lunch bag. And, on top of all that, there were lima beans for dinner and kissing on TV!
My day started out a little differently. If you would rather not hear me grumble or read about my horrible day, please skip to the next portion of this post, labeled "Continuing in listing my gifts". Otherwise, feel free to read on and hear me grumble, as I am in one of those grumbl-y moods!

I wasn't feeling well, so I slept in a little longer than usual this morning. When I finally did get up and around, I found myself behind schedule all day, which made me run late and I barely made it to a dental(oral surgeon) appoint I went to with my son, who is suffering from TMJ,  a very painful jaw disorder. Prior to leaving, my husband called to say that the results of our house inspection came back (we have been in the process of trying to sell our house for over a year and are very close to completing it.) Unfortunately, the report was not good. There was a high level of radon in our house, when it was tested and we will have to have a ventilation system installed that will be very costly. And who knows how much radon our family has been exposed to all these years...we've lived here 11 years and when we bought the house we were told by the realtor that it had been tested and there was no radon in the air.  Radon causes lung cancer, so what are the chances one of us will get it, now? Then, when we got to the dentist(specialist), who had told us that they could treat our son's issue prior to making the appointment, with mouth splints. When we got there (an hour's drive away from our home) the dentist looked at my son's mouth, and he said "yep, he has TMJ, but I don't treat that here." I was like, "What!? We were told you did." So we wasted a half a day going to the dentist, only to not get any help. Then they had the gall to charge us for the appointment that was a total waste. When I my husband said he wasn't paying because we were told a lie, they got rude with us and kicked us out of the office. That was a first!!! I was so upset about the appointment, that on the way home, I was almost in a car accident and got a small scrape on the side of my car.

Well, I'm sure we've all had days that we'd rather not have had lived through, but ultimately I'm still here and I did live through it!! (Praise God!) So, I'm ready to look at the positive side and consider how God has blessed me this past week.

Continuing in listing my gifts with the Joy Dare:

3 gifts in faith, family, freedom
845. Faith - A verse I read today and that I hope to write about in a future post:
"I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." ~Matt. 17:20
846. Family - Getting to spend time with my aunt and uncle from out of state.
847. Freedom - "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." John 8:36

3 gifts red, white, and blue
848-850. Red, white, and blue -the colors of our flag...it's original meaning:

"The colors of the pales (the vertical stripes) are those used in the flag of the United States of America; White signifies purity and innocence, Red, hardiness & valour, and Blue, the color of the Chief (the broad band above the stripes) signifies vigilance, perseverance & justice." (Source)

3 gifts of persistence.
851. Being persistent, as we keep trying to sell our house.
852. With the dry, hot weather, I have persistently been watering my flowers and bushes every day!
853.  Persistent in prayer for loved ones...God hears us, even when we don't get immediate answers.

3 gifts of enthusiasm
854. Being so enthused to see my aunt and uncle and cousins on the 4th!
855. Just found out that Chris Tomlin is performing near my hometown in October...I'm soooo excited to see him!!!
856. Got enthused singing a great song, "God's Not Dead." by Newsboys.

A gift of challenge, conflict, change
857. Challenge - To get everything done on the house, after inspection results.
858. Conflict - Dishonest people at the dentists office.
859. Change - Being willing to change my heart and our plans when it comes to selling our house.(There have been many changes over the past year.)

3 gifts water
860. Spending the day at the lake, swimming to keep cool.
861. Fresh, cold water to drink on a hot day.
862. Available water for my garden...many areas are having to cut back on water use.

    1. No doubt about it, Ugochi. Without God, these days would totally engulf us and life wouldn't have any beauty. But through Him, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks for your prayers, also! I'm trusting that God will provide.
