Mountain Movers

Back in December of last year(2011), I posted a photo and verse post(HERE) about faith. For some reason, I have felt compelled the past couple of weeks to share that verse again. Maybe because I am feeling like my faith is being challenged in many ways, lately. I'm not sure I can say my faith has been strengthened, yet. I guess I have some more learning and growing to do.  God stretches us as Christians in may ways throughout our lives. I know my prayer life has changed and I am working harder at giving more time to reading the Word. Here's the Bible verse:

I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. ~Matt. 17:20

Do you ever feel at times like saying, "If I only had a stronger faith, I would be able to move mountains!" I do! But when I read this verse, it's not how much faith we have, but that we are consistent and persistent in our faith that will move the mountains. I was reminded that mountains can be any kind of hardships in life - from illnesses to loss of a job to loss of one's home or anything that just seems impossible to ever get through. And our willingness to believe God truly can do anything in any situation, if it is His will is having faith in Him.

But the answer to our moving mountains problem is found in Matthew 17.17, where Jesus tells us “O faithless and perverse generation”. We have a sin nature that holds us back. If only we could have the faith of a mustard seed, desire the Will of God, and keep our wants and desire out of it, we could move mountains. That doesn't mean things will be easy...on the contrary. God allows us to go thru stuff to grow closer to Him and in the process, gain more faith!

I'm reminded of one writer's definition of faith:
"Faith is continuing to put one foot in front of the other moving in a forward direction, no matter what reality is telling you."
Source

And Hebrews 11:1 give an astounding definition:
"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see."

This verse also reminds me of a Christy Nockels song:
Waiting Here for You (lyrics)
If faith can move the mountains
Let the mountains move
We come with expectation
Waiting here for You, waiting here for You

You're the Lord of all creation
And still You know my heart
The Author of salvation
You've loved us from the start

Waiting here for You
With our hands lifted high in praise
And it's You we adore
Singing: alleluia

You are everything You've promised
Your faithfulness is true
We're desperate for Your presence
All we need is You

We will wait for You, Lord
In step with You, Lord
We will sing alleluia

Singing: alleluia; alleluia
Singing: alleluia; alleluia

  5. Faith as small as a mustard seed. This often doesn't seem like enough to move a mountain. But I love how you mentioned that faith is just putting one foot in front of the other. It's finding the strength to get up and keep going, no matter what I see. Thanks for for sharing your heart.
